My father, Kenneth U. Pearson retired in 1960 from the USAF at the rank of major. My father never talked of his experiences during WWII and pass away in 1984 without telling me much of his experiences in the war. This is a small bit of information that I found in old photo albums, not all pictures have been posted here. One interesting bit of information that I discovered from going through his albums and corresponding with one of his fellow officer's from when they were stationed together in the pacific theater in the latter part of the war.  In his batch of pictures that I discovered were of a Mitsubishi Type 1 twin engine bomber that the allies dubbed the "Betty". This particular set of pictures showed Japanese soldiers boarding a US C-54. This is what I discovered about this set of pictures: The Japanese bomber was painted with a green cross on the tail and wings. After the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima the Japanese government sued for peace. The Japanese were told to mark this particular Betty as shown in the photographs and was told to fly on a particular path to the island of Ie Shima where they would deplane the Betty and continue their journey to see General Mac Arthur's staff. As I obtain more information I will post it here. My father had before the war enlisted and was a staff sergeant in the field artillery. After the war broke out he volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was assigned to conduct his basic flight training at Brook Army Air Field in San Antonio. When he graduated his wings were pinned on by General of the AAC General Hap Arnold.
